The brand new film based on Stephen King’s classic arrives on Paramount+ this October.

Stephen King has changed the cultural landscape time and time again with his nearly countless, iconic horror stories that he’s written over the years. One particularly terrifying tale has remained a favorite among his fans for decades – Pet Sematary, where readers first learned the hard way that “Sometimes dead is better.”

The original 1983 novel, as well as a 1989 film adaptation by Mary Lambert, introduced the world to the tragedy of the Creed family and created new nightmares for generations to come. In 2019, Pet Sematary got another big screen treatment under the direction of filmmakers Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, bringing the story back from the dead (pun intended) and into the zeitgeist once again.

Eager to keep the ball rolling, Paramount has now unveiled a brand new Pet Sematary film is set to release this fall, but rather than simply do yet another adaptation of the book or push forward with a sequel, this story will turn the clock back to the youth of Jud Crandall, the wise older man who attempted to warn and help the Creed family. The prequel is titled Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.

“In 1969, a young Jud Crandall (Jackson White) is set to leave his hometown of Ludlow, Maine in search of his life’s purpose. Before he makes it out, however, Jud and his childhood friends encounter an ancient evil that has gripped Ludlow since its founding.” This is the story that we briefly hear Jud tell Louis Creed as he’s trying to dissuade him from using the Pet Sematary.

The movie will be directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer, who co-wrote the script with the 2019 film’s screenwriter Jeff Buhler. It also stars Pam Grier, David Duchovny, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Henry Thomas and more. Pet Sematary: Bloodlines premieres at Fantastic Fest later this month and will be released exclusively on Paramount+ on October 6th.
