Opeth x Mastodon co-headlining tour Pre-Sale Code (Premium Members)

Sweden's progressive metal pillars Opeth have teamed with their Atlanta, Georgia-based contemporaries in Mastodon to announce a co-headlining run that will close out the 2021 concert calendar in a massive way.

The 15-date trek touching specific markets across the U.S. will also have the added horsepower of an opening set from extreme music provocateur, Zeal & Ardor - bolstering what is already set to be a wall of sound breaking open each of the tour stops.

Opeth vocalist, guitarist, and architect Mikael Åkerfeldt weighed in on the prospect of getting back to the business of performing live again, with Mastodon joining the caravan to boot.

”Well, we’re about to start up the ole machine again after our longest (involuntary) break ever. We’ve kept rather silent during all this time. We haven’t done much press or public appearances. No streaming shows and of course, no ”real” shows. We’ve kept to ourselves, biding our time. Coming back to North America will be a treat, even if there are conflicting emotions. We’ve become used to being out of sight. But playing live is such an integral part of being in this band. We need to get back out there to see if we still have it in us. Stepping out on a stage after all this time will surely be a nerve-wrecking experience, but we count on you to help us out. We’ll be traveling with familiar faces however. Together with our friends in Mastodon. But also with new acquaintances, Zeal & Ardor. Going on tour during these times means serious restrictions of course. It will be strange in so many ways. But once we’re up there we trust the power of music will take over and make us feel secure. We collectively look forward to this (with a slight touch of pure fear).

To wrap this up: Won’t see you in the pub (unfortunately), but we sincerely hope to see you through the limelight. For us, this coming tour is already memorable. Odd!"

The joint run finds Opeth resuming their itinerary that was interrupted by the events of 2020 and the pandemic restrictions that brought live music to an unprecedented halt. Prior to the shut down, Opeth was out in support of their universally-praised 2019 full length, In Cauda Venenum. In addition to reviving the momentum of their most recent recorded effort, the band is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their seminal Blackwater Park release - an album that remains a watershed moment for the not only Opeth, but for heavy culture as a whole.

Aside from the stylistic mesh that ensures each band on the bill compliments the next, both Mastodon and Zeal & Ardor have recently announced new albums with arrival dates slated to happening later this year and early next. Mastodon have announced their massive double LP in the David Bottrill- produced Hushed and Grim. The band just last week debuted the first single from the album in "Pushing the Tides," which sees the band returning to their Leviathan-era aggressiveness, while remaining one of heavy music's most innovative songwriters.

As for Zeal & Ardor, creative engineer Martin Gagneux has partnered with Marc Obrist for a self-titled full length that will arrive in February of 2022. Following the reveal of compelling cuts in "Erase" and the haunting "Run," the third showing in "Bow" made the album;'s pending arrival official.
