Watch the tense new trailer for the Amazon horror anthology 'Them'
The highly-anticipated horror anthology from Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television got it's first visual recently and the mood thus far is terrifyingly tense.
Amazon states of the series, "'Them' is a limited anthology series that explores terror in America. The first season, subtitled “Covenant,” centers on a Black family in the 1950s who moves from North Carolina to an all-white Los Angeles neighborhood during the period known as The Great Migration. The family’s idyllic home becomes ground zero where malevolent forces — next-door and otherworldly — threaten to taunt, ravage and destroy them."
Apart from the shared star in Shahadi Wright Joseph, 'Them' does masterful job of tapping into the tone, esthetic, and loaded social commentary of Jordan Peele's 'Us,' while delivering an authentic portrayal of the cultural and social stratification of the era.
The show's creator and executive producer Little Marvin along with fellow executive producer Lena Waithe utilize the genre to toe a fine line between real-life terror and that of the supernatural to prompt discussion through poignant, compelling storytelling - and the trailer fully backs that up.
The series stars Deborah Ayorinde (True Detective), Ashley Thomas (Top Boy), Alison Pill (American Horror Story), Melody Hurd, and Ryan Kwanten (True Blood).
In the first glimpse of the series, the trailer contrasts the Southern California serenity of palm trees, green lawns, and the 1950's nuclear family with the sinister subtext of eerie imagery that culminates with a haunting depiction of a minstrel show performer, punctuating the social commentary and the sheer terror at the root of the narrative.
'Them: Covenant' begins streaming on Amazon Prime starting April 9th. Watch the trailer below.
