First Trailer for 'Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore' Shows Off Mads Mikkelsen as Grindelwald
The Wizarding World is down but not out in the franchise wars! After a long delayed production and a significant recast, the third Fantastic Beasts movie / eleventh Harry Potter movie is now finally set on premiering April 8th in the UK. The film will release globally week later on April 15th, continuing the story of the wizarding war against the evil Grindelwald set decades before the events of the Harry Potter series.
Warner Bros has just released the very first trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (we've gotta find a way to shorten these titles) and it gives us our very first look at Mads Mikkelsen as Grindelwald, taking over the role from Johnny Depp in the previous film. If you count Colin Farrell from the first Fantastic Beasts, as well as Jamie Campbell Bower and Michael Byrne from the Deathly Hallows movies, Mikkelsen is the fifth actor to portray the dark wizard!
David Yates returns once again to direct the film as does Eddie Redmayne as magical creature caretaker Newt Scamander, David Yates as Dumbledore, and the rest of the returning cast comprising of Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Katherine Waterson, Jessica Williams and Callum Turner.
Secrets of Dumbledore is set several years after the events of Crimes of Grindelwald, and will explore the looming war between Grindelwald's army of Wizard purists and the rest of the Wizarding World. As Newt Scamander and his friends are sent on a mission into the heart of the enemy, Dumbledore begins to realize he's running out of time to act against his former closest friend.
